What happens next?

Once public engagement closes, we’ll collate and review the feedback and make further changes to the concept plan based on the information we receive. It will then be presented to Community & Services Committee to consider recommending the plan to Full Council for adoption in the new year.

The implementation of the plan will likely involve a staged approach (so will not happen all at once and will depend on available funding) but having a clear vision in place will ensure a cohesive way forward.

Background and vision

The Arrowtown Riverside Reserves are a group of community reserves that span 20.5 hectares and are a popular destination for locals and visitors to the district. They’re well-loved for walking and cycling trails, heritage features, skatepark and pump track facilities, backcountry 4WD and horse-riding access.

The draft plan focuses on improving the connectivity between the reserves and the waterways and creating opportunities for pedestrians, cyclists and vehicles to enjoy shared spaces. It also aims to enhance how the reserves are used by providing informal recreation areas to cater for all ages and abilities. The plan supports biodiversity with restoration planting and looks to protect heritage values and improve parking and access.

We’re now seeking feedback from the community before finalising the plan.

  • Share we run a nature based programme 3 times a week in Arrowtown, there is a massive log that the children 3-5years LOVE to play on. I read that you plan on removing all the fallen down logs around the area. Please can you not remove this one! This log is so valuable for learning, physical skills, building resilience and for children getting to be children in untouched nature. We would love to show you special places our children have explored and spent time in over so many years! We would hate for these spots to be taken over by a pristine path or something you think “looks” tidy and beautiful, when in fact untouched nature is the real beauty. on Facebook Share we run a nature based programme 3 times a week in Arrowtown, there is a massive log that the children 3-5years LOVE to play on. Hi Courtney, thanks for your message.

Just to let you know that a development plan is a landscape concept that details the spatial layout of a reserve. It provides a long-term vision so doesn’t generally provide this level of detail. However, the draft plan does mention (in the site analysis section on page 9) under opportunities “Clear deadwood and thin out woodland areas to increase light and views”.

If you could please email us on parksrequest@qldc.govt.nz and highlight the area your programme utilises, we can then consider alterations to the final plan.

  • Share I have read the draft concept development plan, which overall looks great. I note there is no mention in the plan for horse riders. Is there a reason they have been omitted from the plan? There seems to be consideration for other forms of transport (pedestrians, cyclists, vehicles, 4WD). Is it assumed that they will be able to use the tracks and reserves? on Facebook Share I have read the draft concept development plan, which overall looks great. Hi Kirstin, thanks for your query.

We’ve included your feedback in this engagement and will discuss and consider the provision of horse-riding space on trails as well as the provision of space within carparks to ensure they remain suitable for access with horse trailers as part of our review process. This feedback will support in forming the final plan which will be presented to full council and available to be viewed in the new year.

  • Share Unfortunately I didn’t get a personal submission in but am interested enough to have read through all the submissions. It is obvious that while there are a variety of views overall people are positive about the project but with individual tweaks/considerations require. Good luck with your final plan. My question is with regard to the Macetown/Mahu Whenua gateway as mentioned by Mark Williams. Will this be included in the final plan? on Facebook Share Unfortunately I didn’t get a personal submission in but am interested enough to have read through all the submissions. Hi Jill, thanks for your query.

The Mahu Whenua gateway is currently included in the draft concept plan, and we have received positive feedback regarding its inclusion and further feedback that it could prioritised and enhanced in the plan as an arrival area.  We will discuss and consider this feedback as part of our review process. This will be fed into the final plan which will be presented to full council and available to be viewed in the new year.

  • Share How can floats and vehicles turn around in the Wilcox green carpark area if it is going to be formalised with wheel stops etc. Cant have bollards and chains as sometimes when people dont park correctly then you are restricted in movement. Once again we are being squeezed out of areas. Please do not develop Wilcox green anymore or put a bike trail through the middle of it! How are we supposed to go for a ride up Macetown or Tobins track if there is no space to park. These rides are popular for groups of horses and possibly up to 10 floats and vehicles which are easily accomodated on Wilcox green as it currently is. I think this is unneccessary cost to the rate payer of which I am. So my question is what provisions are their for 10 floats and vehicles? Or a horse truck?? on Facebook Share How can floats and vehicles turn around in the Wilcox green carpark area if it is going to be formalised with wheel stops etc. Cant have bollards and chains as sometimes when people dont park correctly then you are restricted in movement. Hi Kate, thanks for your query.

We’ve included your feedback in this engagement and will discuss and consider the provision of space within reserve carparks to ensure they remain suitable for access with horse trailers as part of our review process. We've received a number of submissions from the horse-riding community about equestrian access in response to the draft concept plan. This will assist in forming the final plan which will be presented to full council and available to be viewed in the new year.
