FAQs
What is a Parks and Reserves Development Plan and why are we doing this?
A development plan is a landscape concept that details a spatial layout of a reserve and maps how an area can be used by the community while protecting and enhancing its natural and cultural values.
This document will provide a clear vision for the park that considers previous community engagement and designs that community groups have worked on.
How have Iwi been involved in this project?
QLDC has a partnership agreement with local mana whenua and have been in discussions from the early engagement stage of the project. The Parks and Reserves team will continue work with local mana whenua to ensure their values and feedback are incorporated into the final development plan.
How will the development plan for Widgeon Park Reserve be implemented and funded?
Implementation is staged as funding becomes available. Funding could come from Council (through Annual Plans and Long Term Plans) or through community avenues such as associations, local trusts or private donors. While no funding for implementation is currently allocated in Council’s draft Long Term Plan 2024-34, having a development plan ensures there is a cohesive plan for improvements if funding becomes available.
