Stop building ugly "affordable" homes that are small, barely functional and won't suit most growing families/incomes.

Build beautiful houses that are split into 4-6 apartments and reduce the building costs of 4-6 "affordable homes". Apartments don't need to be tiny and stacked on top of each other, this alternative type of development would take up less land space than individual houses, save on materials, still allows for some yard/balcony opportunities and can be spacious inside. Not town houses that don't suit everyone but spacious, well proportioned buildings. The only way in many cases to ensure workers stay in the area (thus offering stability for employers in crucial business roles) is to ensure housing is available that is both affordable and pleasant to actually live in.
