What is a Parks and Reserves Development Plan and why are we doing this?

In a nutshell, a development plan is a landscape concept that details where we propose to place physical things and maps how an area can be used by the community.

This plan aims to provide a clear vision for the park that builds upon the work carried out over the past decade, including community engagement and previous designs.

What are the next steps following public engagement?

We’ll collate and review the feedback and make further changes to the draft plan based on the information we receive, prior to it being presented to the Community & Services Committee for adoption. The implementation of the plan will likely involve a staged approach (so will not happen all at once) but having a clear vision in place will ensure a cohesive way forward.

How have Iwi been involved in this project?

QLDC has a partnership agreement with local mana whenua and have been in discussions from the early engagement stage of the project to incorporate their values and feedback into the draft development plan.

How will the development plan for Jardine Park be implemented?

Implementation is staged as funding becomes available. Funding could come from Council (through Annual Plans and Long Term Plans) or through community avenues such as associations, local trusts or private donors. While no funding for implementation is currently allocated in Council’s draft Long Term Plan 2024-34, having a development plan ensures there is a cohesive plan for improvements if funding becomes available.
