Proposed disposal of land at 516 Frankton-Ladies Mile Highway
Consultation has concluded. Approval was given to dispose of this land to Waka Kotahi for NZUP.
Feedback has closed on a proposal to dispose of some Council-owned land at 516 Frankton-Ladies Mile highway to Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency (Waka Kotahi). If approved, the disposal will support the construction of a proposed new roundabout at the current intersection of State Highway 6 (SH6) and Howards Drive.
The new roundabout is part of a broader package of work known as the New Zealand Upgrade Programme, aimed at providing more choices for locals and visitors to get around the district. This work is being delivered for Waka Kotahi by Kā Huanui a Tāhuna.
To create space for the roundabout, we are proposing to dispose of around 4,370m2 (subject to final survey) of Council-owned land at 516 Ladies Mile to Waka Kotahi. Disposing of this land will not affect Council’s future plans for community facilities on this site.
The future work will also require the removal of a number of trees on the 516 Ladies Mile property. The potentially affected trees are shown on the plan below. We are proactively working with the Lake Hayes Estate/Shotover Country Community Association to consider and identify areas both on and off the property for replacement trees to be planted. For any tree removed from Council property, we intend to plant two replacements. This is in line with the draft Tree Policy 2022 which was consulted on in February and will be considered for final adoption in August.

What's next?
We will hold a public hearing if submitters wish to speak. A date for this will be confirmed, if required.
After that, the Council is expected to consider the outcome of the consultation process and make a decision on the proposal at the Full Council meeting in September 2022, or following the local government elections in October.
