How would you like to use Warren Park in the future?

We recently asked for community feedback on a draft development plan for Warren Park, a public reserve in Central Queenstown that has the potential to become a well-used recreational space for our community.

Next steps

Once the feedback has been considered and factored into the draft Development Plan it will be presented to the Community and Services Committee at their June meeting to consider adopting.

Background and vision

Warren Park is a large flat recreation reserve located alongside Gorge Road between Queenstown and Arrowtown and is bordered by Ben Lomond to the west and Queenstown Hill to the east. The former Whakatipu High School sat adjacent to Warren Park before relocating to Frankton.

Horne Creek extends along the southern boundary of the park, lined by mature beech trees and native shrubs. Currently there are not many opportunities to enjoy the natural feature of Horne Creek as there is a fence separating it from Warren Park. The grounds are mainly used for informal recreation purposes, temporary parking and small community events.

The vision for the future of Warren Park is to create a community park providing a variety of recreation opportunities for residents and visitors, along with showcasing Horne Creek and its natural ecological and cultural connection between Matakauri Wetlands and Queenstown Bay.
