  • Share The proposed improvements are relying on grants, are these to be taken from a wider pool of local sports/rec grants or targeted at fee paying clubs? I would agree that the area is in need of improvement, but also wonder if there could be a possibility of creating a more open, shared space where people such as Frisbee golfers and park goers could also use the BBQ facilities. I don't know what the membership levels are for the club but I don't believe it is an extremely popular sport with the younger generations in QT. So maybe the funding could target a wider reach in the community. on Facebook Share The proposed improvements are relying on grants, are these to be taken from a wider pool of local sports/rec grants or targeted at fee paying clubs? The Bowls Club would apply to various funding trusts in the region for funding to undertake this extension. The facility would be for the Bowls Club, with toilets and showers for the Tennis Club (they have nothing at the moment apart from the public toilets). The current BBQ is often used for bowls functions by many community businesses and social groups and this would remain the same. The BBQ would be re-positioned, under cover in a more secure position.

With regards to popularity of the sport - it is growing!  Our Bowls 3 Five competition over two months has 80 mainly younger players and a lot to these join up as social members to enjoy the facilities, as do the Darts Club members (approximately 40 people).

Our functions over the summer months are close to being booked out every year and then we have all the casual social bowlers coming in every week as well.

The Bowls Club has a lease agreement with QLDC. Clubs, groups and individuals are able to book the facilities, including the greens, BBQ or pavilion and bar, through the Bowls Club. Information and contacts can be found on their website https://www.bowlsqueenstown.co.nz/

The Bowls Club does not currently have funding for the proposed extension presently, and would rely on grants to undertake this work.  They would also be grateful to anyone in the community interested in providing funding assistance.

The Bowls Club plans to undertake this extension once they have approval from QLDC. Following that, they will apply for Building Consent. Any building work over the winter months would be ideal.
