Feedback on a draft Pressure Sewer Policy is now closed.

A pressure sewer system is an alternative to a conventional gravity sewer system. Rather than relying on gravity, a pressure sewer system pumps sewage through the pipes. This approach has benefits for certain types of topography and ground conditions.

There are currently a number of Pressure Sewers operating in the Queenstown Lakes District but any applications for a new system are considered on an adhoc basis. Introducing a Pressure Sewer Policy will provide more consistent guidelines for:

  • the application of pressure sewer systems in the district.
  • the ownership of various components of the system and the responsibilities.
  • the requirements for subdivisions and developments which use pressure sewer systems.
  • the roles and responsibilities of all stakeholders (QLDC, developers, property owners, and householders)
