Industrial Land Use Study

Queenstown Lakes District Council and Central Otago District Council are working together on a sub-regional Industrial Land Study to better understand the amount, type and location of industrial land needed across the Queenstown Lakes and Central Otago subregion over the next 30 years.

Industrial land supports a wide range of business activity, including construction, trade services, freight and logistics, manufacturing, processing, storage, rural industry, infrastructure and service activities. The Study will help councils plan for future industrial land needs, support business and employment growth, and inform future planning, infrastructure and implementation decisions.

Why are we seeking input?

We are seeking practical input from businesses, landowners, developers, infrastructure providers, industry representatives and other organisations with an interest in industrial land across the subregion. Your insights will help ground-truth the evidence base and identify current and future industrial land requirements, infrastructure and access constraints, location drivers, resilience considerations and emerging trends.

Input gathered through this process will inform the Study’s evidence report, industry engagement summary, spatial options assessment and implementation plan.

Register your interest

We're inviting interested businesses and organisations to register your interest in participating in the Industrial Land Study engagement programme. This may include attending an industry workshop, completing an online survey, or taking part in a targeted interview where further detail is needed.

Registrations of interest will help ensure engagement includes a balanced cross-section of sectors, locations and perspectives. Workshop attendance may be limited, but everyone will have an opportunity to contribute through the online survey.

How will the information be used?

Feedback will be reviewed and summarised to identify key themes, issues and opportunities for industrial land planning across the subregion. Engagement findings will be reported in an anonymised form. Individual participants and commercially sensitive information will not be attributed without permission.

What happens next?

Following the registration period, the project team will confirm workshop participants and circulate further information about engagement opportunities. An online survey will also be made available for businesses and organisations that wish to provide input.
