Consultation has concluded.  The trail will remain unsealed with the exception of a small portion which will be sealed to ensure continuity of the footpath along Frankton Road.

Feedback on the Frankton Track surfacing trial is now closed.

We're trying out three surfacing options for potentially sealing this key link in the future. If you regularly use this track, hop on your bike or throw on your shoes, check it out and let us know your thoughts.

What to expect:

From 1 March, three 10m long sections of the Frankton Track will be sealed in different grades, as a trial.

The three types of surfacing include:

  • 3/5 grade chipseal
  • 4/6 grade chipseal
  • 5/6 grade chipseal

There's signage along the trail and users can scan the QR code to provide feedback. This will help us to finalise a future detailed design to upgrade the track.

Why seal the Frankton Track

The Frankton Track is one of the key routes from Frankton into the Queenstown Town Centre.

It has been identified as a priority route as part of the Whakatipu Active Travel Network and when funding is available, is expected to be upgraded to encourage more people to walk or cycle as their preferred travel choice for work or play.
