The Frankton Masterplan and Integrated Transport Programme Business Case sets a framework to respond to the future needs of Frankton, as a hub for the Wakatipu Basin.
The Masterplan establishes a 30-year vision, out to 2048. Alongside the Masterplan, the business case will identify a preferred programme of transport improvements, aligned and integrated with land use.
The process
The project was launched in July 2018 with a public engagement period to establish what would make Frankton a great place to live, work and play now and in years to come.
Early insights from the community were clear – the community would like to see Frankton evolve into a well-connected hub for locals with a strong heart, including more opportunities for:
sport and recreational activities;
a transport hub with efficient public transport
co-ordinated urban planning and controlled design and development; and
well-designed transport infrastructure with sufficient car parking and connected walking and cycling trails.
Since then, we have continued the conversation with key stakeholders to better understand land use and transport integration issues facing Frankton. This has included a series of workshops to:
identify a Network Operating Framework (i.e. where people want to go, how they get there and what stands in their way);
establish a vision for Frankton; agree masterplan design and planning principles, objectives and outcomes; and
develop a short-list of transport programme options to support the vision and future growth of Frankton.
We also held further community engagement with the wider Way to Go Group in April and July 2019. You can read about the results of that engagement on the important links on the right of this page.
