Why is Te Kararo Queenstown Gardens and Queenstown Bay foreshore not included in this plan?

The Queenstown Gardens falls under its own specific Reserve Management Plan from 2011. You can read this here

The original plan from 1991 did include Queenstown Bay. This was superseded in 2016 by the Queenstown Bay Reserves Management Plan. This plan focuses on the pressures unique to the Queenstown Bay lakefront area. You can read this here

Why review the existing reserve management plan?

Council is required by legislation to develop reserve management plans for any reserves under its control, management or administration. Reserve management plans should ideally be reviewed every 10 years, to ensure they remain relevant and evolve with changing community needs. A lot of the key issues and objectives of the existing plan are still relevant in part but need updating. A review is necessary to enable these changes.

    What does the plan include?

Reserve management plans typically include a vision, as well as objectives and policies which set out how the reserves will be administered by QLDC. This is to ensure a consistent approach to management decisions and compliance with the Reserves Act requirements. The objectives and policies are likely to cover recreational uses, ecological and biodiversity outcomes, access and infrastructure, future development, events, and the appropriateness of commercial activities within the reserves.

Did you consider the Te Kirikiri Frankton Masterplan when drafting the draft plan?

Yes, the Te Kirikiri Frankton Masterplan was publicly notified and endorsed by council in 2020. It has valuable information and themes which will flow into our draft RMP as it provides design and planning principles which relate to the Frankton lakeside reserves.
