Consultation has concluded.
Tables and chairs on public spaces make an important contribution to the quality of public places in our district's town centres by providing an active street frontage that is vibrant, dynamic, comfortable and attractive. They provide a space for social interaction and the opportunity to withdraw from pedestrian movement in the street and rest while observing street activity. The intention of a 'Table and Chair Area' is to provide a safe and inviting environment for outdoor seating that forms a natural extension to the seating of an existing restaurant or café.
Council has recently sought to refresh the 2006 Tables & Chairs in Public Space Policy, and we welcome any feedback you may have on the updated policy. To see the proposed policy refresh, click here.
